All webhosting service provider will offer you FTP access as default service with their hosting plans. Using FTP programs you can upload files on your webspace or can edit/delete your content on the server easily using Web-based interface.
If you want to change certain file permissions, FTP will help you to modify file permissions. Most webhost will also allow you to create your own FTP accounts so that you can create FTP account with limited permission for some with whom you are working on your project, or if you want to share your server space with someone who is helping you for your website. There are web hosts who will allow you to create FTP accounts for your users in which you can define the exact folders the user can access, and can allow them certain permissions so that what they can (and can’t) do with them.
If you are planning to host just a single website then having such multiple FTP feature may not be of much importance for you but it can be useful for allowing temporary or permanent access to your colleague who is helping you with your website without providing him your own FTP login details. Thus having multiple FTP account creating access is a worth feature !!!
